Fresh Install of Yosemite

Following my earlier post, I tried to install Yosemite again on the new hard drive.  For some reason it didn’t work, it just upgraded the OS that was on there before.  More than likely it was an error on my part but I am not too sure.  However, I removed the hard drive from the MacBook and connected it via a SATA to USB connector to my MacPro and formatted the drive using Disk Utility.  I then popped it back in the MacBook and set about reinstalling Yosemite again, 15 minutes later and all is well, a fresh install of Yosemite and I am happy.

Yosemite

All I have to do now is add the 8GB RAM which is due any day now and whoosh all will be speedy and updated.

I would like to see my MacPro running Yosemite but it means upgrading the graphics card and a few other things.

Anyway, I am going to sit and have a good look at the new OS whilst adding some software.

OSX Yosemite – Install Drive.

Hi All, I have just upgraded to Yosemite and its OK….. I will hopefully post more soon, when I have properly tested it out.

OS X Yosemite

If anyone is looking at making an installer drive please follow the Macworld description.  Long winded but works really well.

I chose to use the Disk Utility option, took its time but all ok.

Some issues I have noticed so far are some popular third-party apps, most notably Chrome and Firefox, devour RAM and CPU time in a way they never did in Mavericks.  Is this a ploy by Apple to use their own apps and no third-party ones?

I am going to stop any possible issues with Yosemite by running a clean install on a new HDD, I will let you know if it proves worthwhile. In addition to the new HDD (nabbed from my old MacMini) I will be upgrading the RAM to 8GB, 4GB is certainly not enough.

Comments welcome,

Dropbox

Hi All,

I use iCloud quite a bit but have completely forgotten about Dropbox, it is a great bit of kit and you get 2gb as standard for free.  No costs just sign up and you are away.  The more people you get to sign up the more space you get (max 10gb) its great for sharing and also has apps for the iPhone.

Follow this link and sign up and help me out to gain more space, signing up also gives you more space.

Please don’t think this is some dodgy link as thats not my bag.  I have also posted the link on twitter if you need reassurance.

Anyway, hope your all well!!

4 Days To Go……..

Hell yeah, time is SLOWLY coming to an end.

4 days until I finish work and its been so slow, however I am looking forward to a beer session on Friday.  Revolution Bristol – Be there 7pm.

On another note, why when you try so hard at things they always fall apart or you get shit for it?  I always seem to work hard and get nowhere, however things will be changing. Watch this space!!!!

Have you all seen the new iMessage for the Mac that has been released in Beta?  Its very cool and can be found on the following link.

A few things you can do with iMessage:-

  • Send unlimited iMessages to any Mac, iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
  • Start an iMessage conversation on your Mac and continue it on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
  • Send photos, videos, attachments, contacts, locations, and more.
  • Launch a FaceTime video call and bring the conversation face-to-face.
  • Messages supports iMessage, AIM, Yahoo!, Google Talk, and Jabber accounts.

It is really cool and works well as far as I can see.  I am still testing it.  Please let me know your thoughts.

Also talking of Apple, new OS Mountain Lion!! I always thought Mountain Lions was illegal and downright dangerous.

Take a look at the Mountain Lion Sneak Peek…..

Anyway I am off, lots to watch on TV.
