iOS 8 Update.

The question I always ask myself is, do i need this update? I leave it for a week or more so I have time to read up and evaluate it, see what the issues are and if they are resolved.  However with iOS 8 I am going to jump right in….

Released on the 17th September 2014, the update came with lots of media attention as normal.  People were getting ready to queue for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus on the 19th September 2014 (UK time). As expected there was a rush on the Apple servers, many people were not able to upgrade and many had problems.  This is exactly the reason why i leave it a few weeks but today is the day.

With the amount of space that is needed, an estimated 5GB, to allow us to download iOS 8 it is easier to download it via a PC or in my case a Mac. Please may I just say this is not space required for the download, it is space to be able to download iOS 8.

This excerpt from macworld.co.uk confirms the space required:

Based on last year, we expected that iOS 8 would be about 700MB, although at the time it was recommended that you have 3GB free.

Unfortunately it’s iOS 8 turned out to be even bigger and greedier. iOS 8 is 1.1GB and requires a massive 5.8GB of storage to be free before it can install. This is because it downloads a compressed file, unpackages it and then installs it. You need the space for the unpacking and the update. It also needs enough space for iOS 8 itself.

Obviously I need to tell you all to backup, to your computer if you have not done so already.

Below confirms some of the new features in iOS 8.

First attempt at iOS 8 hasn’t faired well, failed to install and has left me with a dead phone.  I shall try again….

2 Hours later and I have lost my backup, as its upgraded from iOS 7 to iOS 8, so I have to re download all my apps and log in to all of them again. What joy! No SMS messages amongst other things.

I have never had a problem before however, this time its been hell and I expect it will be for a few more weeks to come.

Goodluck!

The New Evernote Smart Notebook by Moleskine – Available Today!!!

The New Evernote Smart Notebook by Moleskine | Evernote Blogcast.

I gotta get me one of these, and it includes the Premium Subscription for 3 months totalling £8.97, so in fact you are paying only £11.02 for the Moleskine Notebook!!!!

I am somewhat dubious as surely it will only be useful if you do drawings and such like because other than that you can do the rest straight on the app??? Please tell me if I am wrong. 🙂

Dropbox

Hi All,

I use iCloud quite a bit but have completely forgotten about Dropbox, it is a great bit of kit and you get 2gb as standard for free.  No costs just sign up and you are away.  The more people you get to sign up the more space you get (max 10gb) its great for sharing and also has apps for the iPhone.

Follow this link and sign up and help me out to gain more space, signing up also gives you more space.

Please don’t think this is some dodgy link as thats not my bag.  I have also posted the link on twitter if you need reassurance.

Anyway, hope your all well!!

Finally Have A Chance To Post.

It’s Saturday and I finally have a chance to update my blog.  I have been so tired and busy this past week that I think I have neglected posting.

I have started my new job, this was on Monday and so far so good!  It has been a lot to take in with it being a new place, new systems, new people and well pretty much everything is new.  The people in the training with me are lovely, so I am pleased that (so far) I am not working with any twats.  In my new role I will be dealing mainly with Motorcycles but will more than likely incorporate cars too.  It takes me 10-15 minutes to get to work which is a bargain and currently the hours are good.  I did work out though, that I would work an extra 30 minutes and get a full 1 hour lunch, this is great as I used to get 30 minutes in my last role.  I also noticed that even with the longer lunch I will still get home around the same time as I would if I was in my last job, which is about 5:45.  Overall good job and looking forward to showing what I am capable of!!!

More interesting developments which I have not mentioned are –

New iPad HD(3) which does look amazing, but is it really needed so son after the iPad 2?  The list below is roughly what is different between the iPad HD and its predecessor –

  • High-resolution Retina display
  • 2048×1536-pixel resolution at 264 pixels per inch (pip)
  • Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating
  • Support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously
  • iSight camera: 5-megapixel with autofocus; tap to focus; face detection in still images; video recording, HD (1080p) up to 30 frames per second with audio; video stabilisation
  • FaceTime camera with VGA-quality photos and video at up to 30 frames per second
  • Photo and video geotagging

Oh and don’t forget the price…….

I have a few new films –

Warrior
The Social Network
Real Steel
Paranormal Activity 3
Over the Hedge (Widescreen Edition)
Madagascar
Invictus
Crazy, Stupid, Love
Fright Night
Stake Land
MELANCHOLIA

I have only watched a few of these, mainly because I have been so tired and not in the mood to watch TV or films.  I have however, as I am on the subject, managed to get the F1 channel on SKY.  Its immense and I am looking forward to catching the first race of the season at 6am on the 18th March.  If anyone is interested in what I have, here is the DVD List.

Anyway I will post more soon.

Ciao
